Paid Leave

Effective January 1, 2024, the Paid Leave for All Workers Act requires employers to provide employees with up to five days (40 hours) of paid leave during a one-year period. Employees may use their paid leave for any reason. However, employers may require practicable notice or limit the use of paid leave to two hours per day. The paid leave will begin accruing after an employee has worked for 90 days at the rate of one hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked. Employers may refuse to roll over any unused paid leave to the next year period or payout unused paid leave upon termination. Employers providing paid sick leave under city or municipal requirements are exempt from this policy. If the employer already provides a sufficient amount of leave for any reason, they are not required to provide additional paid time off. 820 ILCS 192.
